Life skills & employment

Recovering from the traumatic experience of being homeless is a journey, not a quick fix. It takes far more than having a roof over your head and warm food in your belly to get back on your feet.

We help Londoners rebuild their lives piece by piece – restoring confidence, boosting skills, building connections and generating a renewed sense of hope, confidence and possibility.

Want to volunteer for our life skills and employment programmes?

We are always seeking freelancers and volunteers to support our programmes, helping deliver sessions and workshops on sport, art, music, gardening, digital skills and employment.

If you’re interested in volunteering with us and have specific skills to share, please contact Joe Mitchell, our Head of Employment & Wellbeing Initiatives, at jmitchell@shp.org.uk or fill out our volunteer expression of interest form here.

Through our Achieving Potential programme, we offer opportunities for Londoners to participate, learn, and grow:

  • Life and Social Skills: We offer a range of activities, including art, sports, cooking, music, and trips, to help clients discover their strengths and talents.
  • Education, Training, and Employment: We develop work readiness skills, offering practical support and access to education, training, and job opportunities.
  • Lived Experience: We empower clients to support others through peer mentoring or by shaping our services via co-production

Homelessness doesn’t define you. It’s an experience, not a forever. And with the right support, it can be ended.
