SHP & London Marathon Terms & Conditions (2026)
The below terms & conditions (T&Cs) applies to the Single Homeless Project (SHP) challenge event of TCS London Marathon 2026, its participants, donors and applicants. By registering for the Event and receiving a place from SHP, you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions.
1. London Marathon Entry and Fees
1.1. As a participant/applicant you agree, accept and understand the following: Entry Fees, Registration Fees and donations given to the charity are not refundable unless otherwise stated. This clause extends to all donors who may sponsor a participant via any SHP owned-entity or third party website collecting on SHP’s behalf.
1.2. As a participant/applicant you acknowledge you cannot swap, sell or transfer your place in an event or allow anyone else to participate on your behalf. This will result in automatic cancellation of the place with no refund to the participant/applicant or donors for any cost associated with the event, including the registration fees.
1.3. Guaranteed Entry and Confirmation
1.3.1. Definition of Guaranteed Entry
a) The term ‘Guaranteed Entry’ means an entry that is confirmed as an ‘official entry’ into the event (TCS London Marathon 2026).
b) Such entries are typically procured directly by SHP from the official race/event organisers.
c) SHP reserves the discretionary right to allocate its event entries to participants and/or applicants as it deems fit.
1.3.2. Clarification on ‘Guaranteed’:
a) A participant’s entry into an event will be confirmed in writing by an official SHP email address (@shp.org.uk)
b) The participant/applicant assumes the responsibility to complete their registration after receiving an email from Let’s Do This (or any other third party provider should TCS London Marathon 2026 decide so) and to ensure they follow all guided necessities to run, including, but not limited to, picking up their race number. Failure to do so will not result in any adverse effect on SHP nor shall SHP be liable to refund any costs as per clause 1.1.
1.3.3. Precautionary Measures for Applicants:
a) SHP requests all applicants to refrain from making any arrangements such as travel and accommodation until they have received written confirmation from the charity and race providers.
b) SHP shall not be responsible for any consequences arising from arrangements made prior to receiving written confirmation.
c) This responsibility extends to all non-participants associated, in any manner, with the participant(s) or applicant(s), for whom the charity disclaims any responsibility at any stage.
1.4. Entry Fee Subsidy Repayment Clause
1.4.1. In the event that SHP covers (subsidises) a participant’s event entry fee and confirms their participation, but the participant can no long join the event, SHP reserves the right to recover the remaining balance owed outwith funds raised and donated.
1.4.2. Where there is a remaining balance on the full entry cost, SHP reserves the right to pursue the remaining balance via invoice.
1.4.3. This clause is in place to prevent the charity from incurring financial strain due to
participant/applicant unforeseen circumstances.
1.4.4. Failure for any participant to raise the milestones listed in section 2 shall also be liable to paying back the full entry cost and others as per 1.4
2. Fundraising and Donations
2.1 Fundraising Target and Milestone Agreeance
2.1.1. By registering for the TCS London Marathon 2026 and committing to a space provided by SHP, all applicants/participants agree to raise a minimum of £2,200 for SHP. This can be collected via JustGiving, Enthuse, CAF, Benevity or another method if agreed by both parties (SHP and participant). The participant must ensure they are raising money for Single Homeless Project and any other fundraising for any other charity must be rectified as soon as the participant is made aware and the same targets and milestones will apply to the participant regardless of time passed. Failure to do so will result in an automatic cancellation of the race place.
2.1.2. Progress of reaching this fundraising target will be enforceable by milestone checkpoints, namely the 25 December 2025 whereby a participant must have raised £500, the 19 February 2026 whereby a participant must have raised at least £1,500 and the 13 April 2026 whereby a participant must have raised at least £2,000.
2.1.3. Failure to reach these milestone targets by 11:59pm on the date in question will lead to SHP having full rights to cancel the participants place (usually, SHP will have made every effort to discuss this milestone failure prior to cancellation). Registration fee will be refunded but no donations from any and all sponsors will be refunded and it is the participants responsibility to ensure this is effectively communicated.
2.2. Donation Policy and Participant Communication
2.2.1. If the event is cancelled, or the participant decides not to participate (for reasons including, but not limited to, injury), the participant is responsible for contacting their sponsors to inform them that they are no longer taking part.
2.2.2. In all circumstances, once a donation is made via any platform to SHP, the sponsor must assume that money will be collected by SHP regardless of actual completion of any TCS London Marathon place. All donations are to be assumed non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances whereby the sponsor must contact fundraising@shp.org.uk to discuss the possibility of a refund.
2.3. Unrestricted Fund Utilisation
2.3.1 Unless explicitly stated otherwise, all funds raised by event participants and their donors/supporters are considered unrestricted. These funds will be utilised by Single Homeless Project to further our mission and charitable objectives, with a focus on directing resources to areas of greatest need.
2.3.2 Unless a specific agreement is in place, Single Homeless Project is unable to provide
detailed reports on the utilisation of individual contributions. The charity appreciates the support and trust of its donors in allowing flexibility to allocate funds where they are most urgently required.
2.3.3. The participant shall not claim the funds are being used exclusively for any specific project by SHP, explicitly misleading donors and potential donors with negligent wording and/or language.
2.4 Exclusion of Additional Fees from Participant Fundraising and Donations
2.4.1 All and any additional fees, including online fees, card fees, other fees, and/or Gift Aid, cannot be incorporated into any participant’s fundraising, donations, or payments made to Single Homeless Project. This policy ensures transparency and clarity regarding the exclusions from the stated contributions.
2.4.2. Once your (SINGLE) fundraising page is set up, despite platform choice, this will be where we as race space facilitators will view your fundraising efforts. Any funds collected in person will need to be donated to your fundraising page to count towards your accumulative figure.
2.5. Upon confirmation of entry into the event, the charity strongly recommends that all participants initiate their fundraising efforts promptly. Unless otherwise instructed, participants are encouraged to create an online giving page using JustGiving (https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/shplm26).
2.5.1. If a participant opts to set up a joint online fundraising page, such as with another participant, the charity kindly requests immediate notification. Participants can communicate this information by emailing jkeogh@shp.org.uk and fundraising@shp.org.uk (your two main contact points for the duration of your challenge period). Clear communication ensures accurate record-keeping and transparent accounting.
2.5.2. Should you set up a joint fundraising page, the target is not set at a minimum of £2,200 for the entire page. This figure should be multiplied by the amount of participants included in the joint fundraising page. For example, if participant X and participant Y (TWO participants) set up a joint fundraising page, their minimum fundraising target will be £4,400, with their milestones being £1,000 on December 25 and so forth.
2.6. Currency and Non-UK Platform Compliance:
2.6.1. As a registered British charity, fundraising targets are, by default, set in Great British Pounds (GBP), unless specified otherwise in event-specific terms and conditions. Participants residing outside the UK are to make SHP immediately aware, as race spaces are generally targeted to London residents. In the case of an exception, the participant and their donors are required to adhere to GBP targets but have the flexibility to fundraise and promote their efforts in their local currency.
2.6.2. Unless otherwise specified, all fundraising activities must be conducted through agreed-
upon platforms, such as JustGiving, irrespective of the participant’s geographical location. This
standardisation ensures consistency and streamlined processing of funds regardless of the
participant’s base.
2.7. The participant will use only lawful means to fundraise for SHP and will not do anything that harms or is likely to harm the charity’s reputation.
2.8. SHP can terminate the participant’s authority to fundraise on the charity’s behalf at any time by sending written notice to the address or email given at the point of registration or participation. The registration fee may be kept, or returned, to the participant – this will be assessed on a case by case basis.
3. Event Organiser Terms and Conditions
3.1. Event Policy and External Organiser Terms and Conditions
3.1.1. To access the official terms and conditions for the event, please refer to the event
organisers’ official website. Likewise, partners affiliated with SHP are expected to have their unique terms and conditions available upon request before any agreement.
3.1.2. All participants are required to review and accept the terms and conditions associated with event participation. By registering, participants acknowledge their understanding and acceptance of the specified terms.
4. Event Participation
4.1. Participant Liability, Risk Acknowledgment, and Insurance Requirement
4.1.1. All participants acknowledge and accept that neither the event organisers nor Single Homeless Project shall be held liable for any negative affect on any individual associated with participating in this challenge event, this includes, but is not limited to, death, personal injury, event cancellation (in whole or part), or loss or damage arising directly or indirectly from their participation in the event.
a) Assumption of Risk: Participants affirm that they engage in the event at their own risk – and have exercised free will in choosing to engage in said event on behalf of Single Homeless Project.
b) Insurance Requirement: The charity mandates that all participants obtain insurance covering participation in the event, as well as any necessary travel, illness, injury, accommodation and/or personal belongings.
c) Single Homeless Project is unable to provide insurance covering participation in the event, and the participant is responsible for securing appropriate insurance cover.
4.2. Pre-Event Communication and Changes in Circumstance
4.2.1. The participant commits to promptly notifying SHP, in advance of the event, should they anticipate being unable to participate due to injury, illness, or challenges in meeting their pledged fundraising amount or for any other reasons. Immediate communication ensures that appropriate measures can be taken to address the situation. This may result in prompt cancellation of a participant’s space so SHP can fill the space with an individual likely to meet expectations.
4.2.2. All participants undertake to inform SHP promptly of any changes in the information previously provided to the charity or alterations in their circumstances that might hinder their ability to reach fundraising targets or participate in the event. Transparent communication about any changes enables the charity to offer support and make necessary accommodations.
4.2.3. The charity kindly requests accepted participants to provide bi-monthly updates on their fundraising and training progress, starting from the confirmation of their entry into the event. Consistent communication allows the charity to stay informed and offer support as participants prepare for the upcoming event – as well as best support participants in bespoke and individualised manners.
4.2.4. The charity asks for all participants to make note of milestones listed in 2.1.2. and assume responsibility in meeting those targets to ensure their race place continues to remain theirs.
5. Participant Entry Withdrawal and Allocation
5.1. SHP reserves the right to withdraw a participant’s entry into the event under certain circumstances that the charity sees fit and maintains the discretion to allocate any open entries appropriately.
5.2. The charity may withdraw a participant’s entry if it deems the participant is failing to meet the minimum fundraising target or milestone target within the specified timeframe. This excludes entry fees, registration fees, and gift aid.
5.3. SHP retains the right to withdraw a participant’s entry for any reason it deems fair and reasonable.
5.4. The charity commits to making efforts, utilising email and telephone communication, to address concerns about a participant’s fundraising progress before withdrawing their entry. This process involves collaboration with the participant and utilising the information provided. By registering for this event, you are consenting to this form of communication, which is confirmed by you ticking you have read these T&Cs.
5.5. No individual possesses an inherent right to a race entry from SHP.
5.6. The participant and/or applicant commit(s) to engage in the event exclusively in support of SHP. Once accepted onto #TeamSHP and allocated one of the charity’s event entries, the participant and/or applicant agree(s) not to participate for, or switch allegiance to, another charity or organisation prior to the event. This commitment ensures consistency and clarity in the charitable focus of the participant’s efforts.
5.7. All participants agree to fulfill their stated fundraising and/or donation amount and upload all final funds to their fundraising page within 28 days after the fundraising event.
5.7.1 This is subject to change on an event-by-event basis. Please refer to the specific event T&Cs for clarification on due dates and any associated offers and expectations.
5.8. SHP retains the right to modify the values of its entry fees, registration fees, and/or fundraising targets at any time, based on its discretion or operational needs. Although unlikely, it is SHP’s right.
5.9. SHP reserves the right to amend its Terms and Conditions whenever deemed necessary by the charity. Any such changes will be implemented with due consideration and communicated appropriately to all stakeholders.
6. Personal Data and Images
6.1. Unless otherwise agreed, event participants hereby grant consent to be filmed or photographed by SHP or someone contracted by SHP. The rights to such footage or photographs shall belong to SHP. Participants expressly permit the unrestricted use of their name, picture, image, feedback, and comments in any future publicity, advertising, fundraising materials, and/or promotions. Participants will notify SHP in advance of the event if they would prefer not to feature in any publicity.
6.2. Participants grant permission for the storage and utilisation of their personal information by SHP in connection with the organisation, promotion, and administration of events. Participants have the right to opt out of this by contacting jkeogh@shp.org.uk or fundraising@shp.org.uk
6.3. Participants further consent to the sharing of their personal information with event organisers, as necessary, by SHP for the purposes of organising, promoting, and administering events.
6.4. SHP places paramount importance on the privacy of all stakeholders. The charity commits to never selling or swapping participant details with third parties. Participants retain the right to withdraw their consent at any time by contacting us at fundraising@shp.org.uk.
Detailed information on the protection and use of personal data is outlined in our Privacy and Cookies Policies, accessible on the SHP website.
